Description
The classic Australian period romance novel by Miles Franklin (the pen name of Stella Maria Sarah Miles Franklin). Sybylla Melvyn, a creative young woman living in rurual Australia in the 1890's must find her own means of support when her father's drinking plunges her family into debt. In the course of performing a series of unhappy jobs, Sybylla catches the eye of the wealthy Harold Beecham. However, plagued by self-doubt, Sybylla rejects Harold's proposals as she dreams of a life as a writer.
